The Saudi-led coalition blamed the Houthis, who had not immediately commented, while US President Donald Trump considered joining Saudi strikes in Yemen.

China's Taiwan Affairs Office accused him of pursuing independence through military means and foreign support, saying his speech undermined stability across the strait.

3️⃣ 🇪🇺🇺🇸 EU backs court against sanctions: The EU rejected threats against the International Criminal Court after Washington announced sanctions freezing its US assets and giving American businesses six months to end dealings with it. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused the court of political bias against Americans and Israelis, while the ICC said the measures obstructed justice and vowed to continue its work.

4️⃣ 🇧🇷 Brazil heads for presidential runoff: Senator Flávio Bolsonaro finished ahead of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in last Sunday's first-round vote, taking about 47% against 45% and sending Brazil's presidential race to a runoff. Bolsonaro's Liberal Party also doubled its Senate caucus to 28 seats, strengthening its legislative position as both candidates seek support from defeated rivals and non-voters.

5️⃣ 🇪🇺🇨🇳 MEPs call for tougher China response: The European Parliament voted 454 to 86 on Wednesday for a resolution calling for stronger action against China's economic coercion and support for Russia. MEPs urged consideration of the EU's Anti-Coercion Instrument if Beijing exploits Europe's reliance on critical raw materials, as the bloc's trade chief travelled to China for negotiations.

🇺🇸🇷🇺🇺🇦 Trump agrees Russian diesel deal

US President Donald Trump announced a deal for Russian diesel on Friday, saying it would help reduce fuel prices.

He said Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed to release more than 300,000 tonnes immediately and another 500,000 in November.

The US Treasury said it was issuing a temporary licence allowing Russian diesel to enter global markets.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticised the decision, arguing that easing oil sanctions would finance Russia's war rather than help end it.

The White House had not clarified who would pay or when the fuel would reach buyers.

3️⃣ 🇵🇸🇮🇱 Abbas postpones Palestinian elections: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas postponed November's legislative elections until next September, extending a voting gap dating back to 2006. The PLO cited conditions in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, including alleged Israeli restrictions, while Israel rejected the claim that it obstructed the vote.
